Does Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Finish Strong?
Here’s your chance to root for your favorite Nintendo or Sega character as you help them beat their opponents with your awesome skillz, that is if you don’t get tired.
I remember back in the days with Track & Field for the NES when you had to push the A & B buttons as fast as you can to simulate the two legs running. It was really tiring and our fingers would hurt after a long game. Here’s a tip if you still have the game and are stuck with ancient gen gaming. Place a piece of paper over the A and B buttons and slide your finger back and forth really fast. Using a controller with turbo mode also helps tremendously.
Ok, let’s get back on topic and back to the future. Now that wii have the We remote, instead of mashing buttons to simulate running we actually have to simulate running with our body parts. That means holding the nunchuck and Wii remote and shaking them as fast as you can. This can get really tiring really fast so it’s a great way to keep in shape if you’re a 24/7 gamer.
The controls aren’t that bad in the game but it sure can be tough depending on the event you play. I always had trouble with high jump and triple jump. I just can’t seem to get the timing right when I flick the remote upwards to jump. The javelin throw event also gives me trouble because it also requires you to flick the remote up with good timing. Swimming and rowing is also a pain to play especially against the computer on Masters difficulty. Sometimes I don’t even know if my movements are helping.
The game is not that easy to pick up and play for newcomers because you have to explain the controls to them more often than other party games and different events have different controls. Once you get that out of the way though, the game is pretty fun with multiplayer. We had a blast in the Dream Race which is essentially Mario Kart on foot. Archery was also fun because it really requires you to act like you’re holding a bow and arrow. However, to get the most out of multiplayer, you’ll have to play single player to unlock events for multiplayer. Good thing it’s not that hard as long as you’re strong in a few events. You just have to place third in a circuit to advance.
It’s a shame that online multiplayer didn’t make it into the game, but you can still use Nintendo WFC to check the records of players all around the world. There’s some pretty darn good players out there and they don’t let tough control schemes stop them from setting a world record. You gotta work hard and practice, practice, practice to make it on the list. You might even get healthy and buff on the way there.
This game doesn’t scream fun, but it’s nice to pick up and play once in a while especially with some friends or family. There will be times when you get frustrated with the game because of the controls, but then there will also be times of laughter when your opponents get frustrated by the controls and you win. If it wasn’t for the multiplayer and online rankings, I would have given this game a 6. Overall this game is a 7 and it would have scored higher if online multiplayer was included.

High School Brain Training – A Successful Pilot
New York, NY (PRWEB) May 26, 2010
During February-March 2010, MIND360 conducted a pilot session for the students of Reali high-school in Haifa, Israel. 40 participating students trained in a dedicated site, playing MIND360s engaging brain training games as an enjoyable way to strengthen key cognitive functions, including memory, attention, executive functions, thinking/reasoning and visual perception of the students. MIND360 and the school’s mutual aim was to evaluate brain fitness technology contribution for improving the learning skills of students.
Methodology: in this 8 weeks pilot, assessment questionnaires were handed out to both students and teachers participating in the pilot. The students were asked to assess their scores in math, computer science and foreign language, motivation to learn and ability to focus in school. The teachers were asked to give their opinion about each student’s abilities, concentration and potential. After the benchmark setting, the same set of questionnaires was handed to both students and teachers in order to examine improvement in the students’ studies.
The students were given login access to the site’s brain games, and each week another brain trainer was added to the program. The program’s goal was to examine the student’s cognitive skills throughout and following their completion of the brain training program. The students’ progress was monitored and reported each week to the pilot manager.
While the brain games were released gradually according to the program stage, the best trainee of the week and the “Challenge” mechanism maintained the inherent students’ motivation. Also, the site was functioning as a mini social network where students could contact their classmates via email, and challenge each other to gain cognitive scores in the various games.
Pilot results: The results of the teachers’ questionnaires indicate a general 11% improvement in concentration, 17% improvement in the students’ persistence, 11% improvement in their relative scores as compared to the class. The student’s improvement was especially apparent in Computer science and Math. The students’ questionnaires indicate a 6% improvement in concentration and a 22% improvement in understanding.
These encouraging results support the theories relating to cognitive training and learning skills, relating to memory improvement and concentration improvement as a result of brain training – showing the value of incorporating brain training games into syllabus to improve student’s achievements. The students enjoy the learning experience and the opportunity to succeed in their studies, while the educators are able to follow the students’ progress and recommend a brain training program to maximize their achievements.
Based on this activity, the Reali school and MIND360 will conduct a larger scale pilot for the junior high students. In addition, a new pilot using MIND360s brain training games will be evaluated for improving ADD/ADHD symptoms with ADHD diagnosed students.

25th Southeast Asian Games 2009
The Southeast Asian Games will be in its 25th edition comes year 2009 when it’s held in Vientiane, Laos. It will also be SEA Games 50th year since its inception. The biennial multi-sport event was formed back in 1959 and was previously called Southeast Asian Peninsular Games or SEAP Games. Laos holds the honor of being host country for the first time in its history for the year 2009.
The history behind the games was that when the Southeast Asian nation’s delegates attended the 1958 Asian Games in Tokyo, during a joint meeting they all agreed to have a sports organization within the Southeast Asian region that will promote closer bilateral ties.
The founding seven members were Thailand, Philippines, Malaya (now Malaysia), Laos, South Vietnam (now Vietnam), Burma (now Myanmar), and Cambodia. The Southeast Asian Games Federation numbers grew over time and Indonesia, Brunei Darussalam and Timor-Leste joined the ranks.
For the 25th Southeast Asian Games, the capital city Vientiane will be main games area. Due to decades of war and lacking in resources and finances, this impoverished communist country has reduced the number of sports to be contested at the SEA Games. It dwindled the figure to a proposed 25 games. This is far lesser than the 43 sports being contested at the last SEA Games in Thailand, 2007. The 25 disciplines that will be in competition are:
1. Archery
2. Aquatics
3. Athletics
4. Badminton
5. Basketball
6. Billiards and Snooker
7. Bodybuilding
8. Boxing
9. Bowling
10. Football
11. Golf
12. Handball
13. Judo
14. Karatedo
15. Muay Thai
16. Pencak Silat
17. Ptanque
18. Shooting
19. Shuttlecock kicking
20. Table tennis
21. Taekwondo
22. Traditional boat race
23. Volleyball
24. Wrestling
25. Wushu
The news that Laos has dropped a considerable number of sports and run the risk of not being able to hold the event due to financial constraints, it has led to other SEA Games countries and even help outside of the region in aid. Vietnam has agreed to help out in the staging and organization of sports and footing the bill on a new $19 million Games Village. Thailand has offered exchange lesson for Laos’s officials for more pointers in SEA Games preparation, which is worth some $2.9 million.
Singapore are to provide teachers and technicians, and organization such as the Yuuwakai Association of Japan has agreed to donate US$100,000 for the new Karatedo training center in Laos, while China has agreed to chalk up the main cost for the new Laos National Stadium. It is estimated a total US$85 million worth of aid has been handed by various nations.
With the outpouring of international help, it is reported that the progress of Laos preparation for the SEA Games have been encouraging. The aid sped-up the logistics preparations and facilities are now up to 60 per cent from completion. However if Laos does fail to meet the qualifications to hold the event in time, the games would be moved to Singapore as an alternative hosting backup option.
The games in Laos are slated to open on December 13th, 2009 and the closing ceremony is scheduled for 21st December. The opening, closing and major games will be held at the new Laos National Stadium.
Laos has employed the use of their national animal, the white elephants as the Official Mascots. Named Mr. Champee and Ms. Champa, these two Lao Elephants will represent the national flower of Laos.

BrainTrain's New Software Features Video Game Interface and Working Memory Training to Build Reading and Learning Skills
Richmond, VA (PRWEB) April 20, 2010
BrainTrain, Inc., a company known for its professional brain-building software programs, is putting its neuropsychological expertise to work to help people with reading challenges. Its newest software release, “TNT Reading,” combines entertaining memory and attention building games with research-based reading exercises to make learning to read a rewarding, fun experience.
Our country is in the midst of a literacy crisis. I have envisioned using a neuropsychological approach to solve this crisis for a long time, says Dr. Joseph Sandford, Clinical Psychologist and President of BrainTrain. It speaks very poorly for us that less than a third of U.S. students read proficiently. Sadly, an even smaller percentage get to experience the joy of reading for fun. TNT Reading could provide a real breakthrough to help these students.
The TNT reading system is based on over twenty years of research on the specific skill areas that have the greatest impact on peoples ability to read. Academically these skills include letter recognition, the ability to discriminate sounds and to match letters to sounds. But what may be even more important are the cognitive skills people need before they can actually learn in any academic discipline – sustained attention, mental processing speed, and working memory. BrainTrain has built its business around developing software to help people with cognitive impairments caused by head injuries, attention deficit disorder, learning disabilities and developmental disabilities to train or remediate these skills. TNT Reading now takes what BrainTrain does best and uses it to take the company in a whole exciting new direction.
TNT stands for Test n Train. The name reflects both its dynamite new approach and its design. The software incorporates a carefully structured pattern of testing and training at each level of the program. TNT Reading systematically tests a specific skill component at each level. If the testing reveals a deficit, the user immediately receives training. The learner must master each level before advancing to the next. While the exercises are set up to progress automatically, alternating between cognitive games and reading exercises, the trainer or teacher can elect to use only those parts of the system that are most appropriate for an individuals specific needs. This means that the software is simple to use but also allows customization. It can be used with adults as well as with children, and also shows promise as a tool for educators teaching English as a second language.
A downloadable trial version of TNT Reading is available from the BrainTrain website.
About BrainTrain.
BrainTrain was founded in 1989 by Dr. Joseph Sandford, a professional computer programmer turned clinical psychologist. When he began his practice working with head-injured clients, it was natural for him to perceive how the computer could be an indispensable tool for helping them. His vision of using the computer as a way to improve peoples quality of life through cognitive enhancement continues to define BrainTrains mission. While BrainTrain is still a small family business, the software it produces is currently used in all fifty states and in over fifty foreign countries.

Motorcycle Racing Games
These are some of the most fun racing games to play online because the best races are automatically recorded and you can play against the previous high scores to improve your own performance. An Internet search for available racing game downloads will reveal kids motor cycle games like Daredevil and Motor Bike Game. The Motor Bike Game is just like a real motor cycle race with pit stops and laps and the goal is to always finish first in order to ascend to the next level of difficulty.
One of the first motorcycle racing games ever created is not one of the racing games to play online as it is a video game dating back to 1991. Developed by Electronic Arts the game called Road Rash throws the player in the middle of illegal violent street motorcycle races. It was probably the first game in the history of motorcycle racing games that combined combat and motorcycle racing, and probably the first game that allowed weapons (clubs, crowbars, cattle prods or police batons).
The game has several levels of increasing difficulty and the player needs to finish each race on one of the first three places if he is to advance to the next race. For every victory the player receives a certain amount of money which can be used upgrade the motorcycle, buy a new motorcycle or pay the police fine when being arrested. Since it is a game of illegal street races the police can pop up at any time and mess with your score.
Other more modern racing games to play online are Motor Bike Game, Daredevil, Test Drive Unlimited, Grand Theft Auto or MX vs. ATV Unleashed; although they are not all actual motorcycle racing games and some of them just combine motorcycle racing with car racing or boat racing, etc.
One of the most original motorcycle racing games is the MX vs. ATV Unleashed which takes trophy trucks, monster trucks and motorcycles and makes them race together on one single track to offer you a race like you’ve never raced before.
The Test Drive Unlimited is a combination of cars and motorcycles together in an off road and on road race across one thousand miles of Hawaiian territory. Last but not least Daredevil is a kid’s motorcycle racing game that lets you perform some of the most spectacular motorcycle stunts ever seen on the internet.
