Hong Kong 2009 East Asian Games will be officially held in Hong Kong from December 5-13 this year inviting over 3,000 athletes from 9 countries/regions competing for 281 gold medals. While the city of Hong Kong is bouncing for such pride and prestige, we at Cosmopolitan Hotel are equally excited to be selected as one of the hotel accommodation hosts, and having this golden opportunity to be of service to athletes from around East Asia.
The first time “Olympics of the East Asia” right here in Hong Kong
Making its debut, Hong Kong is exhilarated to have won as the hosting city. Held once every four years, the East Asian Games of 2009 (EAG) is a major event in the Asian multi-sport arena. Due to its large scale, it is nicknamed the “Olympics of the East Asia”. The game invites athletes from all over East Asia including China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Hong Kong China, Japan, Korea, Macau China, Mongolia, Chinese Taipei and Guam competing in 21 venues for 1,700 events and expecting over 200,000 spectators.
A preferred hotel for sports event
While Hong Kong makes its debut in hosting such a large scale sports event, Cosmopolitan Hotel Hong Kong is always the choice of international events. “We are proud with the fact that we are always seen as the choice of international events, say Hong Kong International Film Festival and this time EAG. Geographically, the hotel is within short distance to Hong Kong Stadium, South China Athletic Association and literally just opposite to Queen's Elisabeth Stadium which eases daily activities of athletes. We have prior experiences in hosting world class sports events for example rugby, soccer, hockey, swimming and badminton and in hosting world class athletes we are well acquainted with their special needs including meal requirements, etc,” says Anita Chan, General Manager of Cosmopolitan Hotel Hong Kong.
“To welcome the teams, the hotel is undergoing facilities upgrade including installment of flat screen TV and gym room facilities. We will surely make the most of this golden opportunity to offer top quality lodging and other food and meeting services to athletes from East Asia, and also showcase Hong Kong as the city of hospitality,” added Chan.
During the game period, the hotel will be providing 200 rooms accommodating the badminton, shooting, table tennis and rugby teams from November 30 – December 13, 2009.
