Jeremy Penn, a New York Artist to Represent U.S. at Pan-American Games

New York, NY (PRWEB) July 20, 2011 New York Artist Jeremy Penn was selected by famed Mexican artist Karla de Lara to represent the United States during Rosafest, an art exhibition celebrating the 2011 Pan-American games being held in Guadalajara, Mexico. A total of 42 artists were selected, one from each country participating in the games. The artists will each be painting a larger-than-life rose sculpture that was designed by Karla De Lara herself. Since Jeremy Penn is known for his unique ability to evoke emotion through his unconventional art techniques, the estimated 8,000 athletes and 1 million tourists planning to visit the city to witness the Pan-American games are no doubt in for a double dose of entertainment. The aptly-named event will take place in Guadalajara, Mexico, known as The City of Roses for its floral panorama made up mostly of these delicate flowers. Historically, roses have been perceived as a symbol of love and beauty, so its no surprise that the city has become somewhat of an icon of feminine beauty. The organizers of the Rosafest plan to donate the proceeds of the event to towards the fight against breast cancer and cervical cancer in Mexico. Although Penn characteristically remains tight-lipped about his specific intentions for his 5 x 5 rosa, he does say that he plans to add his unique spice to the already-beautiful city of Guadalajara. Known to incorporate elements such as 24K gold into his paintings before lighting them on fire with his commanding imagery, its safe to say hell deliver on that promise. The artist plans to devote the entire month of August to breathing life into his creation, working alongside Karla de Lara in her personal studio before the public unveiling of the completed rosa . All 42 roses, one from each of the participating countries, will grace the streets of the city during the duration of the Pan-America Games. Exactly what Penn has planned for Rosafest is indeed anyones guess, but if history repeats itself, whatever this artist creates is bound to both shock and inspire us. While it may be true that a rose by any other name is still just a rose, Penns rosa is destined to be something else entirely. opining on the Alternet piece on the feminist ethics of dieting cited by Kat over at I Blame the Patriarchy (handily blogrolled to your right). The for those who have the time for the whole essay, is this:”Ariel Stallings (the author of the Alternet piece) has fallen into the trap that has ensnared so many femininity-loving self-avowed feminists before her: she cannot tell the difference between what is true and what she wishes were true. She wishes it were true that conforming to the patriarchal beauty ideal is a politically neutral act; therefore she has concocted an elaborate scenario she believes will produce the desired result, and confuses it with truth. To wit: it is desirable for a feminist to want to be healthy; simply equate feminine beauty with health and there you are! But it is not true that feminine beauty and health are the same thing….” So dieting dutifully to reduce cholesterol good, dieting to have a nice ass bad. Just so you know.]]>
